There are potential problems with using blocks with this format, and course designers will need to consider carefully whether they will work as intended.

Links that are on the course page are handled so that they do not move the user off the page. Blocks may have links take the user off the course page rather and give user direct access to modules rather than through the pop ups (eg. Activity block, Course contents block). This is not necessarily bad, but may confuse some user if they see activities sometimes in a modal sometimes not.

Another potential problem would be that he blocks are  on the course page are not updated if the page is not reloaded. So any block that depends on interactions may become stale and no longer agree with the course page information.

In order to get around either of those limitations, the Poster activity is also supported as a plugin. This activity is configured to display blocks as them main content of the module page. In this format, it displays the blocks in a pop up. When the activity is clicked blocks are loaded in the modal and any in course links are handled. See the Poster example activity.
